The old Howard Jackson Store at Martling, Alabama, a few miles north of Albertville on county road 409, was built around 1900 and remained in business as a country store for a century. The store was originally built and opened by the grandfather of Howard Jackson, who operated the business until his death. The interior of the store displayed such items as horse collars, galvanized washtubs, canned goods and a cold water soft drink box. Along with the friendliness of its owner, it had the rustic flavor of a truly "old country store". The building still stands but is now operated as a gift shop by its new occupants.
